Athough, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Imo State Sector Command,  had led a campaign warning truck drivers to operate responsibly.
A Civil servant in the Imo State Ministry of Works,  Charles Udochukwu, narrated how he was nearly crushed to death by, according to him, a reckless driver whom he said was indiscriminately overtaking other vehicles without obeying traffic regulations.
” I narrowly escaped death by whiskers if not God. The truck driver hit my car and he could even stop”.
He appealed to the Governor, Hope Uzodimma and the FRSC to call the the lorry drivers to order, adding the accidents always occur on the Obinze, Nworieubi, Okigwe and Mbaise roads
A trader, Mrs Lorrita Anwanwu, a native of Nworieubi community, in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area, told the media that four people she knew had died on road accidents involving lorry and busses.
“I want government to caution those drivers. I do travel to Owerri on daily basis for my business if not God, a bad thing would have happened to me. Last week, a bus- Imo ran into a stationary truck along Obinze”.
A truck driver, Muhammed Musa, from Sokoto State, said, he had driven lorries for twenty years.
He disclosed that he drives slowly in  order to avoid road accidents.
When contacted, The Head of Operations, FRSC, Imo Sector Command, Charles Eze, said, the corps had always adviced drivers to drive in conformity with the established road traffic regulations to avoid road traffic crashes.
“We are doing our best. Overspending kills. It is better to drive safely and stay alive”, he advised.
