Dr. Basilia Igbokwe: Steering Excellence in Academics

Since assuming office as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Dr. Basilia Igbokwe has brought a sense of purpose, direction and renewal to that institution. 

  Her leadership is really characterized by a clear vision, and a steadfast commitment to  laying the groundwork for sustainable progress in the Fedpolynek. In this short period, Igbokwe ‘s administration has made significant strides in fostering stability, enhancing academic standards, improving infrastructure and strengthening the Polytechnic’s relationship with its community.

Since she came onboard,  the Rector can be said to have adopted an inclusive approach in her leadership style. She engages with various stakeholders, including staff, students, and  union representatives, and this has created a more harmonious environment where academic and administrative activities have been thriving, thereby attracting attracting commendations from parents, guidance whose children and wards are undergraduates of the higher institution.

For students, Dr. Igbokwe’s administration has implemented a range of initiatives aimed at improving their welfare, as well as that of the Staff. Scholarship opportunities have also been extended to support indigent ones in the institution, and reward academic excellence, therein reflecting the Polytechnic’s commitment to inclusivity.

Unlike other Rectors of Polytechnics, Igbokwe’s simplicity, humility, cheerfulness, transparency, accessibility and down-to-earth are infectious. This possesses an element of a true TEACHER! She is worthy of emulation.

A dynamic leader, Igbokwe previously held numerous pivotal roles within the institution, including Deputy Director of the Directorate of Monitoring & Evaluation, Deputy Director of the Industrial Placement Centre, and Director of the Welfare and Social Responsibility Directorate.

Beyond Nekede, Dr. Igbokwe has been active in several roles, including  South-East Coordinator for the Reading Association of Nigeria, Facilitator at the National Open University of Nigeria, and External Examiner for institutions,  such as Covenant Polytechnic and Abia State Polytechnic. She has fostered an environment of academic excellence, supporting faculty and students alike in their pursuit of knowledge and professional growth.

 In just ten months, Dr. Basilia Igbokwe has demonstrated the transformative power of a visionary leadership. Her ability to carry everyone along in the scheme of things, and inspired confidence among stakeholders have set a new standard for excellence at that Ivory Tower. Most persons are testifying of her trajectory in just, her short time in office.

Positive impact of her governance will undoubtedly have a long-lasting effect. As the Polytechnic continues to build on these achievements, it is essential for all and sundry to remain committed as she steers the Federal Polytechnic to greater heights.
