Monarch raises alarm over 16 corpses dumbed at Imo river

The traditional ruler of Oriendu autonomous community, Ubaha, Ohuhu, Umuahia North LGA of Abia, HRM Eze Pastor Phillip Ajomiwe has raised an alarm, over discovering of 16 corpses dropped in Imo river and five miles,

The traditional ruler who revealed this to Daily Nigerian Telegraph, in his Palace. hinted that his Community shares border with Ihitte-Uboma LGA of Imo state adding that he was sure that the corpses were brought and dropped from these areas.

Given a graphic picture said they saw 16 corpses wrapped individually in a sack inside the Imo river, a river he said cut across this community,  to Imo state.

The traditional ruler further disclosed that within the period they saw three bodies dumped at 5 miles which he said they alerted the Local Government chairman who mobilized for the bodies to be evacuated. He said a man was kidnapped from Mbano and the kidnappers hide him around 5 miles waiting for ransom.

He said he was alerted by a hunter and he went with the vigilante group to rescue the man who was full of gratitude noting that the kidnappers have already started negotiating for ransom of three million with his family before the Eze and vigilante came for his rescue. Eze Ajomiwe said severally vehicles stolen are often abandoned at 5 miles which he always report to the police.

He said he made effort to go and see the  Local Government chairman of Ihitte-Uboma  to tell him how corpses are brought from the area and dumped in his community and the ways to secure the boundary  but was warned because of the activities of kidnappers around those areas.

The traditional ruler used the occasion to call on both the government of Imo and Abia to be proactive in securing the border Communities.

He reitereted that the rate of kidnapping and ritual is alarming especially at the interstated  border and the reason he called on the Abia state government to empower traditional rulers adding that he often spend his personal money moving around mobilizing to ensure  that his Community is secured.

Eze Ajomiwe revealed that unemployment has driven alot of youths into crime, he called on government at all level to do something urgently on unemployment.

The traditional ruler who has won several awards in farming call on Abia state government and other governors of Southeast to invest in agriculture. He noted that there is much money in agriculture and most importantly it will provide job and food on the table of many families. He maintained that there is hunger in the land

He appeal to traditional rulers in Abia to stop giving chieftaincy titles to people who do not deserve it. He said that, that one is rich is not enough reason to give out chieftaincy titles, quoting the Bible verse which says  “man shall not leave by bread alone”.
