A man  in his eighties, a retired principal and  former Education Secretary in Abia State, Dr Onukwuo Joseph Onuegbu has cried out calling on Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 9 Umuahia and the Abia State government to save his life from those who because of his land want to kill him.
Speaking with journalists,  in Umuahia, Onuegbu said he inherited a land purchased from his late father, in 1st December, 1957.
He said when his father died, the land was handed over to him.
He revealed that ever since them he has been farming there and also leasing some parts of the land to other farmers.
Onuegbu revealed that in March, 2025, some members of Ogbuti family who he shared boundary with , violently chased him and his daughter, Christiana away from the parcel of the land called Ebeh claiming that the land belong to them.
He revealed that he had earlier reported the incident to Bende Division of Nigerian Police Force but no prompt action was taken, made him to report the matter to the Amaogwu village arbitration Panel for amicable handling of the matter. He said after telling his own story, the panel told him that they will invite the Ogbuti family to hear from them.
He disclosed that at the second day of the hearing by the arbitration Panel, the Ogbuti family comprising of one  Nmecha Ogbuti pointed his finger at him raining insult at him and warning him violently never to enter that land again that it belong to them.
“As if that was not enough, one Emmanuel started beating me, Kalu and Nmecha, the Chief of Staff to the Ikwuano Mayor joined him ordering me to disappear from the panel.
“One of them is a police man, who was boasting that even if they kill me, nothing will happen .
“they pounced on me, beating  me with a big stick, dislocating my left shoulder and inflicting a big injury on my head. They also beat my  80-year-old cousin, Iroanya Onukwuo to stupor because he tried stopping them”.
“The pane was in disarray as the elderly men who have called them for peace settlement where in shock at the behavior of Ogbuti family”. Onuegbu stated.
Onukwue, said the matter is before
AIG, zone 9, Umuahia adding that he was still struggling to recover from the injuries he sustained, noting he fear that his life is in danger.
Reacting over the incident on behalf of others Mr Chukwuemeka, Ogbuti
Insisted that  nobody beat Onukwuo Joseph Onuegbu or threatened his life.
“I am telling you that nobody beat him, nobody chased him or is threatening his life’.
He maintained that Onuegbu is the one dragging their land with them that they have been operating in the land over 40 years ago.
