Rural dwellers in Imo are now gripped by fear as heavily armed “Fulani bandits” have continued to attack and kill those in the communities.
This development appears to have thrown the State traditional rulers, Presidents General (PGs) and other stakeholders into apprehension as killings have not seized to stop despite outcries by residents.
Although, number of victims massacred by the group, two days ago, at Agwa, in Oguta Local Government Area, is yet unknown, but Statesman reliably gathered, from indigene of the area, that the dreaded herdsmen domiciled in the in thick forest at the area.
The source, who pleaded for anonymity, urged Imo State government to come to their aid by equipping the local security officers in order to, he said, to fight the bandits and crush them.
“We are not safe, here. Fulanis now live with us, their greatest enemies.;They have destroyed our farmlands with their cattles, rape, maim our people “, he said.
In an interview with the Imo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Chief Cosmas Maduba, on what government is doing to address food shortage in the State, said, the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma is taking proactive steps to reduce the challenges being faced by farmers in the state and guaranteed the availability of food in the market for the people.
“Government is perfecting plans to address food insecurity and high prices of foodstuffs in the market”.
Speaking to this medium, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, urged people of the State to remain vigilant, security conscious. “Report any suspicious movement and activities within their environment to the nearest Police Station”.
