The Bayelsa Media Network Awards (BMNA), organizers of the prestigious Bayelsa Media Awards, has nominated the Weekend Editor of STATESMAN Newspapers, Mr. Sampson Uhuegbu, for an award of excellence in journalism practice.

The nomination, contained in a letter signed by the Project Coordinator of BMNA, was based on Uhuegbu’s consistent contribution to development journalism, objective reportage of the Niger Delta region, and commitment to promoting good governance and community development.

According to the organizers, nominees were carefully selected by an independent panel of media professionals after a rigorous screening process that considered credibility, impact, and consistency in the media industry.

Reacting to the nomination, Mr. Uhuegbu described it as a call to do more, dedicating the recognition to the management and staff of STATESMAN Newspapers and to journalists covering the oil and gas host communities.

I am humbled by this nomination. It shows that our modest efforts in reporting issues affecting host communities and promoting sustainable development are being noticed. I thank the Bayelsa Media Awards team for this honour,” he said.

This year’s award ceremony, themed “Bayelsa First: Promoting Culture, Driving Investment Through Media,” is expected to bring together media executives, government officials, community leaders and stakeholders from across the Niger Delta.

The award ceremony is scheduled to hold in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, with red-carpet arrivals and recognition of journalists whose work amplifies resilience, innovation and development in the region.
