Imo State Community Cries Out For Help Over Erosion Gully Menace



People of Umuchima Community in the Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria, have cried out for intervention as erosion gully is  ravaging their land.
 Daily Nigerian Telegraph reporter who visited the area, discovered the farmlands belonging to people of the area have been completely washed away, including  houses, churches, graves and tombs of the dead are also affected.
    The depth of the gully could reach 100 feet deep as house owners within the site have all deserted the area.
  Meanwhile, the Imo House of Assembly Member representing Ideato South State constituency, Johnson Duru, had moved a motion during  plenary urging Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, to intervene.
     It would be recalled, A member of the House of Representatives, for Ideato Federal Constituency, Ugochinyere Imo, last year, promised to attract attention of the Federal government to the situation.
    An indigene of the area, Mr. Louis Mbamara, pleaded with the State and Federal governments to come to their aid.
     “We have parked out from our house. My building is on the verge of being completely destroyed by the gully. Let them help us”.
    The President General of the community, Mr. Eugene Chukwu, said government had promised to fix the are but for the past three years but failed to do it.
    “Let the Governor direct the Ministry of Works to come to our rescue us”, he pleaded.
     As the time of filing this report, traditional ruler of the community was said to have traveled to Abuja.
