The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) offices across the country can be said to be witnessing unprecedented besiege by intending travellers to overseas who want to acquire International Passports.
Similarly, Embassies in Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are being flooded on daily basis by those who want to apply for Visa.
When this medium visited the Nigerian Immigration Service, at the Federal Secretariat, Owerri, the Imo State capital, International Passport applicants were seen flooded premises of the area.
Although, there was a restrictment by officers of the Immigration Service on visitors even when efforts were made to interview the Comptroller.
In a press interview with a University admission seeker in the London, Miss Oluchi Egwim, said the situation of Nigerian economy was getting out of proportion hence she preffered to travel of the country for studies and a possible job opportunity.
According to her, a child of nobody does not get employed in Nigeria as jobs, Egwim said, are reserved for only the children of politicians and other upper class groups who have continued to dominate space.
Speaking to Daily Nigeria Telegraph, in Owerri, on Thursday, January, 25, 2024, a middle-aged man, Emmanuel Nwachukwu, said there is no better opportunity leaving Nigeria to study abroad where all the hardship facing him would be a thing of the past, stressing that the grass is greener elsewhere than in Nigeria.
“Look at the huge number of Nigerian youths who turned up to be interviewed, some are for study, while others are to work abroad- this will tell you that no youth wants to stay here to suffer hard times”, he said.
Another applicant who pleaded to remain anonymous, told Daily Nigeria Telegraph that the only way to survive is to leave the country to any nation that has good economy.
“My brother, we can not boast of anything here. No electricity supply, no good road, there’s insecurity, high fuel pump price, Hiked cooking gas price, increased transportation fare, unemployment, bribery, corruption, just name them”.
