By Sampson Uhuegbu
About Four Hundred and Sixteen (416) unclaimed dead human bodies lying unclaimed in mortuary of the Imo State Specialist Hospital, Umuguma, appear to be constituting health hazards to the patients and Staff of the health institution.
Even those living within that area can be said to be not immune from contracting an unknown ailments over their exposure through the inhaling of the polluted in- and- out flow of air.
This reporter who visited the hospital on  Friday, April 12th, 2024,  gathered, from a reliable source, that there had been an indiscriminate dumping of corpses in the hospital’s mortuary corridor by the security agents.
According to strong source, “Sometimes these dead human bodies are brought here by the Officers  who dropped them in front of the mortuary with no details”.
It would be recalled, that the hospital management had earlier threatened to embark on a mass burial of those dead human bodies whose relations were yet to be identified and notified.
Also when contacted, one of the top Staff of the Hospital, Dr. Nnadi, said, he would not speak on the issue relating to the unclaimed Corpses in the morgue as the time of filing this report.
Also, a middle-aged man who was believed to be a retired Police Officer, said this, “You know that there is no way we can ignore a corpse when the Police are invited by the public. When they carry it, they have to drop same in the hospital.
The man, who gave his name as Luke Madu, from Obiti  community in Ohaji) Egbema Local Area, noted, that even the Security agencies are not finding it easy because most of these corpses were without any means of identification”.
Madu, further told this medium that some do not have basic identification cards and other contacts addresses.
