Anglican Diocese of Orlu holds Synod As Bishop Benjamin Okeke lauds Rev. Chinedu Nmezi, Wife on Empowerments

Christians have been advised to put their trust in God in order to attract His blessings and overcome  challenges of life.

The Bishop of the Diocese of Orlu, Benjamin Okeke, gave the charge during the Third Session of the 14th Synod of the Diocese held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Okwudor, Njaba Archdeaconry.

The cleric explained that trusting in God involves communicating with Him through prayer and relying on His promises, noting that God remains faithful and loyal to those who trust in Him.

“None of us is exempted from facing difficulties in life. Ecclesiastes 9:11 teaches us this,” he said.

The bishop also commended President Bola Tinubu for steering the country through difficult economic times and sustaining peace and stability.

Bishop Okeke also recalled that the Synod was last held at the church fourteen years ago and expressed appreciation to the Chairman and members of the 2026 Synod Organizing Committee for what he described as a successful programme.

The Orlu Diocesan Bishop further applauded Governor Hope Uzodimma for developmental projects across the 27 local government areas of Imo State, maintaining that the Governor had performed commendably across key sectors.

“On education, Youth development and Empowerment, road infrastructure, Agriculture, Commerce, Civil service, Healthcare, Human capital development and others, the Governor has shown that he has the capacity,” he stated.

The cleric also showered encomiums on Canada-based philanthropist, Rev. Chinedu Nmezi, and his wife, Evang. Vivian Nmezi, for organizing empowerment programmes for less privileged persons in Nkwerre and beyond.

He recounted the all-round contributions of the couple to the lives of many people within and outside the Anglican Diocese of Orlu through their charity platform, Vivian Humanitarian Foundation, Canada, praying for God’s continued blessings upon them.

Bishop Okeke also appreciated his wife, Nneobioma Uloma Okeke, President of the Women’s Ministry, as well as the activities of various groups in the Diocese, stressing that their dedication and commitment could not be overemphasized.

He acknowledged the presence of former Bishop of the Diocese, Rev. Benneth Okoro and wife, Dora Okoro; Bishop Chidi Oparaojiaku of the Anglican Diocese of Ohaji/Egbema; Bishop Emmanuel Maduwuike of Ikeduru Diocese; Archbishop David Onuoha; Bishop Chamberlain Ogunedo of Mbaise Diocese; Bishop John Obinali of Okigwe Diocese; Bishop Henry Okeke of Ideato Diocese; Bishop Geoffrey Okoroafor of Egbu Diocese, among other clerics who graced the occasion.

Earlier, the member representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chike Okafor, who served as guest Speaker, urged Christians to trust in God because of the proven benefits of unwavering faith.

He cited biblical figures including Daniel, Moses and Elijah as examples of people who trusted God and were not put to shame.

In an interview with journalists shortly after the Synod, Mrs. Maureen Azubuike of Amucha Parish in Njaba Local Government Area said she learned the importance of depending on God’s word at all times.

The Clerical Secretary, Ven. Kingsley Nwosu, noted that the event marked the 14th Synod of the Diocese.

“We are being urged to trust in God, which is a sure path forever,” he said.

Speaking also, Rev. Chinedu Nmezi, who was ordained last year, described the Synod as enlightening and spiritually enriching.

“It was my first time attending an Anglican Synod. I am proud of our bishops; they did well today. My advice to Christians is to trust in God. When you hear the word of God and live by it, your life will shine. With perfect trust in God, you have nothing to lose,” he said.

The Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, David Onuoha, also urged Christians to trust in God for spiritual growth and divine benefits.

  The four- day Synod attracted dignitaries from different walks of life, including traditional rulers, clergy, and lay faithful, who came from far and near to witness the event.
