Port- Harcourt zonal chairman of  Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), a branch of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Comrade Joseph Okafor, yesterday, made a shocking statement that Tanker drivers are dying for Nigeria,  urging the public to always clear off the road for safety.
Okafor said this while speaking during the Branch Executive Council (BEC) meeting of the the group, which held at the Embassy Hotel, Owerri, on Thursday.
He regretted, that petroleum Tankers convey substance that are inflammable, and therefore advised other roads users, as well as Security officers to always be cautious while Tankers are coming.
“What we carry is hazardous, and we have lost so many drivers, including  motorists. If you Tanker from afar, it is advisable to give space. Let the general public be aware of this”, he warned.
The zonal Chairman, who is controlling Rivers, Imo, Akwa- Ibom, Bayelsa, Enugu, Anambra, Benue, Ebonyi, Abia and Cross River states, also used the opportunity to commiserate with their members on the death of its National Chairman, Late Comrade Augustine Egbo.
“He was someone you can trust at any, and a man you will always enjoy whenever you’re with him. We’re mourning.  We pray God to give us the fortitude to bear the loss”, he prayed.
