TENSION IN MOUA, UMUDIKE
OVER SACK OF REGISTRAR, BURSAR, 127 STAFF

Controversy is now rocking the removal of the Registrar; Dr. Mrs. Nkeiru Mbanasor and Bursar; Mr. Ugochukwu Ironkwe of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUA), Umudike, Umuahia over alleged financial and administrative irregularities
Also, over One hundred and twenty-seven (127) newly recruited staff of the institution have been releaved of their appointments by the university management.
Weekend STATESMAN gathered, from Mr. Chukwudi Nwosu, a disengaged staff, on Friday, through a telephone call, that those academic and non- academic staff of the employed under the leadership of the immediate – past Chancellor were removed.
“FG had employed over five hundred new workers, whose names, according to him, were captured on the System by the officials from Abuja”, he said
Although, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ursula Akanwa, in her press release, dated July, 21st, 2026, states that the employment process including the capturing of Staff for payroll was already concluded prior to the 1st of March, 2026 which she took over as the Vice Chancellor.
“Despite being issued official appointment letters and identity cards, and having worked for five months in 2026, the university sacked us in July, he said.
This development has continued to raise tension in the university community as most of the staff are now in fear that the “Sledge hammer” might fall on them even though the Vice Chancellor who has just spent five months on seat has made her point on their disengament.
