Imo LP Chair Ezerioha Warns Against Impersonation, Dismisses Faction Claims

The Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo State, Barr. Dr. Nelson Ezerioha, has reaffirmed his position as the duly elected leader of the party in the state, declaring that no other person was elected as chairman apart from him at the Labour Party congress held on April 26, 2026.
Addressing journalists in Owerri, Ezerioha said his emergence at the congress, alongside the election of national officers at the party’s national convention in Umuahia, Abia State. He maintained that any other individual claiming the office could only have served in an interim or appointed capacity.
Dismissing reports of parallel leadership, he insisted there is no faction within the Imo Labour Party, describing contrary claims as attempts to mislead the public. He maintained that the party has no crisis, and this clarification is necessary to ensure the public knows those lawfully elected to speak for the party in Imo state .
The Labour Party Chairman said he had communicated his emergence to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and expressed confidence that the commission would update its records accordingly.
Warning against further impersonation, Ezerioha said the party would no longer tolerate individuals falsely presenting themselves as state chairman, adding that appropriate steps would be taken to protect the integrity of the office.
He urged INEC to uphold due process by recognizing only duly elected officials, saying this would strengthen public confidence in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections. He added that the Labour Party remains united and focused on preparations for the polls.
