The immediate past Chairman of APC in Njaba LGA, Hon. Daniel Onumara, has recounted that how he miraculously escaped an induced assassination.

Onumara accused a powerful politician of the APC fold in Njaba Local Government Area of masterminding his assassination.

Narrating his ordeal before journalists in Owerri, recently, the victim hinted that the incident happened on October 12, 2025, after he got home from activities involving APC online registration exercise.

Onumara said he was ambushed by the assassins who he said were heavily armed who attacked him, dispossessed him of valuables including his vehicle and forcefully abducted him to an undisclosed location.

Onumara claimed that, while being held, his captors told him that they were allegedly contracted and paid by the APC chieftain to eliminate him.

Onumara narrated that he was brutally treated, blindfolded while in the thick and dreaded forest where he was inhumanly kept.

Explaining that he regained his freedom through divine help, Onumara disclosed that heavy rain forced the assassins and kidnappers to temporarily abandon their position, thereby creating an opportunity for him and another victim to escape through the forest.

Onumara mentioned that he had earlier repeatedly reported the incident to the Njaba Divisional Police Station with no positive action to prevent the incident, expressing sadness, dissatisfaction over what he termed as absence of thorough investigation or decisive action by relevant security agencies.

He revealed that about a month ago, he submitted a formal petition to the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, seeking urgent attention to the matter, stressing that his decision to go public was informed to draw wider attention to the issue and compel swift intervention from government and security agencies.

“Exposing the incident would prompt necessary action from all relevant institutions and help prevent a recurrence”, Onumara added.

The victim presented copies of a petition he filed through his legal representative, M. O. Ndubuaku, on May 8, 2026, which was addressed to the Director of State Security Services, Imo State Command, Owerri.

The petition, titled “Petition to the Director of State Security Services (DSS), Imo State Command, on Alleged Kidnapping and Conduct Likely to Cause Breach of Peace,” detailed the claims and called for a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

According to the document, Onumara was abducted at about 7:30 PM on October 12, 2025, shortly after returning from a meeting held at the APC secretariat in Owerri.

The document stated that unknown armed men invaded his residence, discharged gunshots, assaulted him and demanded his car keys, mobile phones and ATM card, which he surrendered under duress before being forcibly taken away in his own vehicle.
